Since 2016, we have upheld the tradition of caroling to raise funds for Malaysian beneficiaries, often being asked why we do this. This initiative is our way of giving back to the many generous Malaysian benefactors who have supported our learning center, both financially and non-financially. It is also a gesture of gratitude, recognizing that while our home country remains in conflict, we have found refuge here in Malaysia.
Moreover, we see this as an opportunity to teach our children that,
despite their challenging circumstances, they can still make a meaningful impact.
Though they may not have financial resources, they can offer their time and voices to bring joy and hope. It’s a lesson in responsibility, encouraging them to grow into compassionate individuals who contribute to making the world a better place. Finally, caroling allows us to spread the vital message
our world needs PEACE now more than ever.
See how we did for our very first Christmas Caroling Fundraiser in 2016 !

○ Observation: The current wooden lockers are very old, small, and in poor condition, with broken latches and insufficient capacity to store the children’s clothes and books.
○ Proposed Action: Install larger and more durable metal lockers to better serve the children’s storage needs..
○ Observation: The current chillers and coolers were donated second-hand and aged, resulting in inefficiency and inconsistent performance
.
○ Proposed Action: Provide new and reliable refrigeration units with warranties to store perishable food items and ensure proper food safety that could meet food safety requirements by the government.
○ Observation: Several issues were identified, including broken doors, faulty taps and showers, and damaged clogged toilets, which limit functionality and hygiene.
○ Proposed Action: Repair or replace broken fixtures and ensure that all washrooms are fully operational and hygienic.
○ Observation: The existing computers are outdated, limiting the children’s ability to effectively use them for educational purposes
○ Proposed Action: Upgrade the computer systems to ensure access to modern learning tools and educational resources.
This year, we were truly blessed by the support of CHARIS Singapore, which enabled much-needed renovations for our learning centre. These upgrades transformed our classrooms, toilets, and kitchen and even added an entire new floor with five additional classrooms. These facilities were essential for our growing learning centre, which has expanded from just 30 students to over 120 today.
The impact of having a clean, functional space has been profound for both our students and teachers, improving the quality of learning and teaching alike. We now understand firsthand the difference that proper facilities and equipment can make.
With this in mind, we believe there’s no better way to pay it forward than by helping a Malaysian children’s home experience the same blessings we enjoy today
Our recent Caritas Beyond Borders service mission at Rumah Kanak-Kanak Bondulu, located next to Holy Cross Church Toboh, Tambunan, Sabah managed by the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception (FSIC), has highlighted areas that require further support for the well-being and development of the children and the efficient operation of the centre. Caritas Beyond Borders programme is a mission-driven initiative under Caritas Malacca Johore Diocese (MJD) to serve less privileged communities while fostering meaningful connections and transformational experiences for volunteers.
There are currently 67 children residing at Rumah Kanak-Kanak Bondulu, ranging in age from 4 to 17 years old. These children hail from remote villages nestled in the mountainous regions of Tambunan, Sabah. The majority of their families rely on farming as their primary source of income, which often provides only a modest livelihood. Many of these children come from underprivileged and challenging backgrounds, including broken families, single-parent households, or the loss of one or both parents.
For these children, the home serves as a sanctuary—a safe haven where they are shielded from the hardships of their circumstances. Here, they have access to the basic necessities of life: a roof over their heads, nutritious meals, and an opportunity to pursue education. The home also strives to provide holistic development, nurturing the children's mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
By creating a nurturing environment, Rumah Kanak-Kanak Bondulu offers more than just physical support; it gives these children hope for a brighter future, equipping them with the tools and skills needed to break the cycle of poverty and build meaningful lives. This sanctuary is not just a shelter but a place where they can grow, learn, and thrive with the emphasis on facilitating proper education.
Sometimes I lay under the moon, And thank God I'm breathin'
Then I pray, "Don't take me soon, 'Cause I am here for a reason"
Sometimes in my tears I drown, But I never let it get me down
So when negativity surrounds, I know someday, it'll all turn around because
All my life, I've been waitin' for, I've been prayin' for, for the people to say
That we don't wanna fight no more, There'll be no more wars, and our children will play
One day (one day), one day (one day)
One day (oh-oh-oh)
It's not about win or lose, 'Cause we all lose when they feed on the souls of the innocent
Blood-drenched pavement, Keep on movin' though the waters stay ragin'
In this maze, you can lose your way, your way
It might drive you crazy
But don't let it faze you, no way, no way
Sometimes I lay under the moon, And thank God I'm breathin'
Then I pray, "Don't take me soon, 'Cause I am here for a reason"
Sometimes in my tears I drown, But I never let it get me down
So when negativity surrounds, I know someday, it'll all turn around because
All my life, I've been waitin' for, I've been prayin' for, for the people to say
That we don't wanna fight no more, There'll be no more wars, and our children will play
One day (one day), one day (one day)
One day (oh-oh-oh)
One day, this all will change, treat people the same
Stop with the violence, down with the hate
One day, we'll all be free and proud to be
Under the same sun, singin' songs of freedom like
Wah-yo (one day, one day), wah-yo, oh, oh (oh-oh-oh)
Wah-yo (one day, one day), wah-yo, oh, oh (oh-oh-oh)
All my life, I've been waitin' for, I've been prayin' for, for the people to say
That we don't wanna fight no more, There'll be no more wars, and our children will play
One day (one day), one day (one day)
One day (oh-oh-oh)
