Our mission is to equip children with life skills for the future by helping them engage with society, think critically, and nurture their unique talents :
laying the foundation for a life of purpose and possibility
Zotung Refugee Catholic Learning Centre (ZRCLC), established in 2008 by the Zotung Refugee Catholic Community, is a community school in Kuala Lumpur operating under the protection of the UNHCR. It provides a safe learning environment for refugee and undocumented children who are unable to attend public schools because of their status as illegal immigrants.
Over the years, we have grown in both numbers and capabilities. Today, we cater to over 120 children from Myanmar, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Alongside a curriculum that includes English, Math, Science, Music, Sports, and Art, we emphasize the holistic development of each child. This includes life skills such as self-management, self-motivation, critical thinking, and corporate social responsibility.
There are about 200,000 refugees and asylum seekers registered with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) with hundered more thousands who are on the waiting list to be registerd. Over 50,000 of registered refugees are children below the age of 18.

Guided by the Catholic Social Teachings (CST), our mission is to provide quality education for children unable to attend public schools, ensuring they receive the equal opportunities, values, and enriching experiences as any other child. By investing in dedicated teachers and fostering dignity and potential, we empower them to build fulfilling futures
Our direction is to equip refugee children with basic education and life skills that prepare them for adulthood, whether they are resettled in a new country, continue to wait in Malaysia, or return to their homeland. Through fostering communication, self-discovery, and critical thinking, we help our children uncover their innate talents and pursue their dreams, empowering them for a brighter future.
The crisis in Myanmar has forced countless families to flee unimaginable violence. Refugee children endure dangerous journeys, arriving in Malaysia without documentation, education, or healthcare. Vulnerable and uncertain about their future, they need hope and support. At ZRCLC, we strive to provide them with the tools to reclaim their dignity and rebuild their futures, one child at a time.
Our school is sustained by unsung heroes : individuals who despite facing their own challenges, selflessly dedicate themselves to teaching. Answering a higher calling, they serve as educators, offering essential support to our children. We are also fortunate to have a dedicated group of volunteers who regularly come to teach in person, further enriching our community.
Our children, aged 5 to 16, are unable to attend public schools in Malaysia due to their undocumented status. Our learning center provides a safe haven where they can study, interact with peers, and receive a balanced meal while their parents work in low-wage, hourly jobs as illegal immigrants to support the family.
Our learning center depends on the generosity of individuals and NGOs to continue its work. Like any educational institution, we face significant operating costs—rent, utilities, teacher salaries, and educational materials—all of which remain high. In the face of rising inflation, the fees paid by our students are not enough to cover these expenses. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a meaningful difference.
Like children everywhere, our children deserve the chance to explore, discover, and prepare for the journey that lies ahead
Operating a learning center involves various roles, from teaching in the classroom to supporting operations through cleaning, coordination and fundraising. If you feel called to help but aren’t sure how to, come talk to us—we’d love to explore how you can make a difference

There are over 50,000 refugee childen and thousands more undocumented children in Malaysia. Currently our children are from Myanmar (majority), Indonesia & the Philippines.
Malaysia is not signatory to the UN Convention of Refugees. As such refugee and undocumented children are considered as illegal immigrants and cannot attend be enrolled in public schools
Myanmar nationals are fleeing their country due to ongoing political instability, armed conflict, and human rights violations. The military coup in 2021 intensified violence, leaving communities devastated and livelihoods destroyed. Ethnic minorities, in particular, face persecution and displacement. With limited access to safety, basic needs, and opportunities at home, many seek refuge in neighboring countries, hoping for peace and a chance to rebuild their lives.
