REGIS VOLUNTEERS VISIT - 8 to 17 July 2026

  When Term 3 began, we were delighted to welcome back our friends from Regis High School!  The group from the U.S. comprised seven students, accompanied by teachers Mr Christopher Rose and Dr Marta Baldassarri. 

The visitors were no strangers to us.  They’re part of a team of around 35 Regis volunteers who provide daily online lessons to our children all year round.  This visit was a wonderful opportunity to strengthen bonds 

already formed online and across 12 time zones!

During their time at ZRCLC, the Regis boys worked alongside our teachers in classes, led themed lessons and supported the rollout of Zotung's online learning system to fellow refugee centres.  Above all, the highlight of the 

visit was seeing our children excitedly meet some of their online instructors in-person. 

It was a joyful experience for everyone involved!

Sharing Ideas Across Classrooms

Both Regis teachers also fully immersed themselves here.  Dr Baldassarri's pasta-making session was especially a favourite!  Our younger students had a lot of fun learning how to make fresh pasta from her native Italy.

Meanwhile, as with his two prior visits, Mr Rose again proved invaluable beyond the classroom. Whether helping in the kitchen or carrying out maintenance around ZRCLC… he was ever the handyman, constantly on the move.

Importantly, their visit allowed a unique opportunity for educator exchange.  Both joined our staff for an in-house workshop, where everyone shared classroom experiences and aspirations whilst exploring ways to support student growth.  Even with contrasting backgrounds, such teacher-to-teacher exchanges provide invaluable insights.

Connor Garutti, William Haynes, Dilan Karim, Simon Kletter and Patrick McKnight, for making the 

24-plus-hour journey from New York to Malaysia to serve and deepen ties with the ZRCLC community.

Our gratitude as well to all our Regis volunteers back in the U.S. whose dedication continues to make a difference to our children!  And a note of appreciation for school principal Mr Charles Heintz who helped secure specialised learning material enabling the volunteers to expand level-appropriate resources for lessons.
